With over 800 million players worldwide, chess has captivated inquisitive minds since its origin in India around 600 C.E. Today, the game remains so intricate that fewer than 1,500 grandmasters actively compete.
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to chess, covering its rich history, the board and the pieces, along with essential game principles.
By the end, you’ll gain an appreciation for chess’s depth. You may even feel inspired to join tournaments or pursue lessons to advance further as a player.
Presented by Jeff Day, who ranks in the top 15% of all chess players in the United States. Day teaches Introduction to Chess at Texas Tech.
