The Abilene Housing Authority (AHA), in partnership with the Community Foundation of Abilene (CFA), proudly awarded its inaugural AHA scholarships at the 2026 CFA Scholarship Reception.
This event marked a significant milestone in the agency’s commitment to educational advancement and resident success.
Four scholarships were presented to deserving recipients, including two AHA high school seniors, Abigail Johnson and Jasiah Pequeno, as well as two adult participants from AHA’s Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) & Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) programs, including Breeanne Neal, and one recipient who was unable to attend.
This moment reflects AHA’s ongoing dedication to empowering individuals and families through opportunity and support.
Two of the scholarships were named in honor of influential leaders who have played a vital role in shaping AHA’s mission and impact.
The Vanessa Faz Bridge to Success Scholarship honors current AHA Board Chair Vanessa Faz (right).
The Dr. Tanya Smith-Brice Rising Star Scholarship honors AHA’s first Board Chair, Dr. Tanya Smith-Brice (left).
Scholarships play a critical role in removing financial barriers and opening doors to higher education, career advancement, and long-term self-sufficiency.
Through this initiative, AHA reinforces its belief that education is a powerful pathway to success and stability.
Both honorees were present at the awards ceremony, adding a meaningful and personal touch to the occasion.
Their leadership and commitment to the community serve as an inspiration to the scholarship recipients and underscore the lasting importance of investing in people and their potential.
AHA extends its sincere appreciation to the AHA Scholarship Committee (Meghan Monson, Lacey Wunderlich, Debbie Ramirez & Tanya Johnson) for their hard work and dedication in developing and launching this impactful program. Their efforts have laid the foundation for what will undoubtedly become a lasting legacy of opportunity for AHA residents.
