Linda Haley and Cel Cowan Memorial Scholarship
Linda Haley and Cel Cowan were both teachers at Hamlin High School in Hamlin, Texas.
Linda Haley was a Home Economics teacher in Hamlin. She earned her master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University and devoted much of her life to teaching essential life skills and vocational training like nutrition, sewing, personal finance, and human development.
Cel Cowan was a dedicated math teacher in Hamlin. With a degree from the University of North Texas, she taught various levels of math and computer science and was known for her unique teaching style. She made math fun and always had Jolly Ranchers to share.
Both ladies were involved in the Hamlin community and the First Baptist Church and raised their kids in the small town. They taught across the hallway from each other, and Cel’s son would later marry Linda’s daughter.
This scholarship was established in memory of Linda Haley (1940-2001) and Cel Cowan (1939 – 2017).
Eligibility
- A graduate of Hamlin ISD;
- Applicants attending any accredited 2-year or 4-year institution or vocational/trade school.
