Clack Educational Fund

Tommie and Bobbie Clack were born on their parents’ ranch about three miles southeast of Abilene. Tommie started her education at Colony Hill rural school and later joined her sister at the Abilene public schools, where they finished high school. Tommie and Bobbie both attended Peabody College, and Tommie graduated in 1902 and Bobbie in 1906. After doing post-graduate work at schools including the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Chicago, Tommie taught public school at Clyde, Colorado City, Midland, Seminole and Abilene. Bobbie taught at Colorado City, Edna, Elmdale and Abilene. The teaching span of Tommie and Bobbie lasted almost fifty years. In their half-century teaching careers, the Clack sisters have influenced thousands of students. The Clack Educational Fund ensures that, in their absence, education is as important as it was in their presence. The scholarship is awarded annually on a rotating basis to Big Country high school outstanding seniors based on exemplary record of academic excellence, leadership, significant participation in one or more extra-curricular activities, financial need and after-school employment.
