Community Foundation of Abilene : Give : Future Fund
"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."
-Theodore Roosevelt
Established in 1995, Future Fund is an initiative of the Community Foundation of Abilene designed to convene leaders that are committed to improving the lives of children in Abilene. Future Fund nurtures philanthropic leadership through the development of a permanent endowment, grantmaking, and educational and social events.
Building a Permanent Endowment:
- Every dollar raised through membership dues is deposited into the Future Fund Endowment Fund held at the Community Foundation. Currently, the endowment is valued at over $450,000. Future Fund has set a goal to increase the endowment to $500,000 by 2010.
- Thank you to
for continuing to partner with Future Fund members in their grantmaking.
Nurturing Philanthropic Leadership:
- Our members have pooled their funds and energy to create a lasting impact in Abilene and to learn first-hand about philanthropy.
- Although it is not mandatory, members have the opportunity to participate on one or more of our committees: grantmaking, membership, marketing, development or social. You will also be invited to attend Future Fund events with friends old and new while at the same time supporting a good cause.
- Members learn about philanthropy, grantmaking and critical issues in the community through fun social events .
Participating in Grantmaking:
- The grant committee reviews proposals and makes site visits to determine the annual grant recipients.
- A percentage of the Future Fund Endowment is used for grantmaking and generous donors also partner with Future Fund to enable us to meet more community needs through our annual grant cycle.
- Future Fund has granted approximately $350,000 to local nonprofits and this high granted a record high of $51,000.
