If you want to give back to the community and create a lasting legacy, we can help. Working with the Community Foundation provides the following key advantages:
- Flexibility We will customize to create something that is uniquely you and to accomplish your charitable goals through a variety of fund types that can be mixed and matched to achieve your charitable goals.
- Permanence The Board of Trustees' primary duty is to honor and protect your charitable intentions in perpetuity.
- Local Expertise The Community Foundation knows and keeps continuous watch on our area's needs and its strengths. We work as a partner with local charities and with our donors to improve the life of the residents of Abilene and the Abilene region.
- Tax advantages The Community Foundation of Abilene is a 501(c)(3) public charitable corporation. As such, it offers the maximum deductibility for income, gift and estate tax purposes. We accept gifts of cash, securities, closely held stock, real estate, and deferred gifts such as those made by bequest, life insurance or remainder trusts. Please contact your financial and legal advisors for the appropriate gifting strategy for you.
- Professional investment management Your endowment fund is invested in our commingled investment pool. We use an investment consultant who assists our Investment Committee in allocating the Foundation's endowments across a wide range of investment instruments. Our goal is to preserve the purchasing power of your endowment fund while returning a reasonable spending amount to the charities that your endowment benefits. See our investment policy here.
- Convenience You or others may make additional gifts of any size to the fund at any time.
- Involvement We welcome your ideas and your involvement in building up our Community Foundation - an important asset for our region.
- Accountability The Community Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of 15 local civic leaders who serve without compensation and for limited terms of no more than six years. The Foundation is audited each year by Condley and Company. The Community Foundation of Abilene obtained recognition in 2006 for meeting or exceeding the National Standards for Community Foundations.
